Two baby girls are born on the same day in Valmere. A monk predicts one is destined to be the Phoenix Maiden, whose identity will be uncovered through a political marriage 18 years later. The King of Valmere believes it is Charlotte Vance. On the wedding day, he marries her to the royal family of Northmere, while Victoria Vance is sent to a remote and wild land.
