Ryan Bennett, a son-in-law living in the shadow of the Preston family, struggles with self-doubt. One New Year, while his wife Natalie Preston is out visiting relatives, he is supposed to bathe their son with a towel but instead uses the bathtub. Distracted by a phone call, the child drowns. Overcome with grief, Ryan hides the baby and covers up the scene. As the Preston family repeatedly tries to check on the child, he blocks them, raising Natalie’s suspicions and compelling her to confront the truth herself.
